Situated between Metcalfe and O’Connor on Sparks’s Street in Ottawa’s downtown, this former Toronto-Dominion Bank branch represents the last of its kind, a premier type bank branch on Sparks Street. Sparks Street, along with being Ottawa primary shopping destination until the last half of the twentieth century was also also home to pretty much every major Canadian Bank in the Twentieth Century including the Bank of Nova Scotia, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Royal Bank of Canada, the Bank of Montreal and finally the Toronto Dominion Bank. As the last, it represents an important part of the evolving lineage of bank buildings on Sparks Street, a link that will soon be lost to a redevelopment project.
