The Technical High School officially opened in 1913 and saw a peak in enrollment during the 1950s and 60s. Enrollment began to decline in the 1970s, which ultimately led to the school shutting down in 1992. James Strutt was among the students that attended the Ottawa Technical High School, he graduated in 1942. The Ottawa Technical High School offered courses in various areas of study, such as auto mechanics, electricity, drafting, computers, and graphic arts.
Throughout its lifecycle the building has undergone minor renovations, notably to the east wing façade, which saw a replacement of the original brown spandrel panels for black glass panels in early 2022. The original brown panels live on through the southern portion of the building across Slater Street, which can be accessed via an overhead walkway.
The building exists today as the Albert Street Education Centre, and offers continuing education and night school services for adults.
