Located in the west end of Ottawa, the Woodroffe United Church has provided communal spaces since the 1950s, when what is now the auditorium was built. The church received a modern addition in the 1960s that has lasted into the 21st century with minimal aging and weathering.
The white mullions encasing dark stained-glass windows create a clean and calculated contrast with the brown brick of the church. On the Woodroffe Ave. façade, the building has a white sculptural concrete arcade, underneath which spans a children’s play area and garden. The windows are oriented in a vertical bricklike pattern and directly meet the underside of the pitched roof at both ends of the building. Next door to the church is the Woodroffe Avenue Public School, built at a similar time.
