As part of the continued growth of the Modern Works section of Capital Modern, we have added two new entries over the last few weeks.
Cartier Place is a hotel located in the Golden Triangle, just south of Ottawa’s City Hall. The tower rises 14 storeys amidst other residential and hotel buildings in the area, but the white painted concrete exterior lets the building pop in its context.
Bay Laurier Place is a 22-storey condo in the west end of Centretown, just beyond many of the city’s office towers. The building offers 195 units.
These matching brutalist towers take up the entire block east-west from Percy St. to Bronson Ave., and north-south from Gloucester St. to Nepean St. The towers were originally clad in rough concrete, with semi-recessed concrete balconies. The balconies feature glass railings with visually solid brown balusters.
