Residence Commons – now named Teraanga Commons – houses the Carleton University cafeteria, and connects to two adjacent residence buildings on campus. The building is located centrally within the residence-half of the Carleton Campus.
Architecturally, the building is a clear piece of the Carleton building stock. Bands of brown brick separate the two levels of the building, which feature repeated vertical windows with extruded concrete frames.
An addition was completed in 2012 to the building along Campus Ave., the new portion of the building extends the facilities of the original while adding additional classroom and learning spaces. The addition has hidden the existing building from most of the University’s traffic, however the original building can still be seen while walking through the residence quad.
Residence Commons was one of three buildings at Carleton University to be renamed at the end of 2022. Residence Commons was renamed to Teraanga Commons, which translates as a name that emphasizes generosity of spirit.
