This five-storey office building is a breath of modernism along Kent Street in an area of primarily residential buildings.
The façade of the building is composed of precast concrete panels that each house a single protruding window, every façade is the same with 10 bays, reflecting the building’s square plan. Four storeys of office are elevated from the ground plane by a shallow arcade that runs the perimeter of Kent Medical uninterrupted. Underneath the arcade is an array of medical services and offices, accessible from a path on Kent Street.
The building steps back from Kent St. and James St. to allow for a relatively generous landscaped buffer, which helps soften its brutalist presence in on the street. Just up the street for example, the Legion Building offers no relief on Kent St. and positions itself right against the sidewalk.
