The Elgar Building is located at the corner of Elgin Street and Lisgar Street, neighbouring the Barrister House. The building houses commercial spaces at the ground floor and offices in its subsequent ten storeys.
The Elgar Building is clad in a glossy grey brick that rises the full height of the façade. Strips of windows run parallel with the brick, with light grey spandrel panels filling in the gaps at the floorplates. At the roof, the parapet protrudes out at the windows, creating a cornice-like feel to an otherwise standard roof detail. The Elgar Building has also always featured a rather prominent address marker on its Elgin Street façade, with “200 ELGIN” written in large white letters at the ground floor.
A separate building at 169 Lisgar Street was built shortly after the construction of the Elgar Building and has an identical facade, visually serving as an extension of the building. 169 Lisgar St. was formerly an office, but was converted into residential units in 2015. As of April 2024, the Elgar Building itself is also set to be converted from office use to residential.
