University of Ottawa’s Academic Writing Help Centre is a modest one storey building nestled among the school’s more prominent structures.

Built in 1965 with the Marchand Residence, the building features a simple material palette and careful detailing. Columns clad in rough concrete support the roof of the building, and create the visual edge of the building’s footprint. Recessed behind the columns is a consistent wall of near floor-ceiling glazing, creating a canopy around the building. Wooden slats on the underside of the canopy provide nice contrast to the concrete elements, creating a sense of warmth.
